Halloween 2008 countdown 5-4-3-2-1

October 31, 2008

It’s here, Halloween!  I’m so excited all of a sudden!  for some reason this year just didn’t seem fun to me before right now!  I’ve been in a slump with all that’s going on. I didn’t even buy the kids new costumes which is a FIRST.  We did plan on reusing girl2004′s Cinderella costume but since she swears the costume is “itchy” we’ve been experimenting a little.  Nothing worth showing you here but I did want to share a few mixes that I thought were cute, I’m not sure what they’re going to be for Halloween, I do have about 15 hours after all, we’re going to be creative!

This post was inspired by Blurb  ”a creative book publishing platform that enables anyone (yes, you!) to produce your own bookstore-quality book starting at $12.95.”  Thanks for the opportunity PBN, you’ve totally inspired me to get organized.

The Other Side of Me

October 29, 2008

Linda Eder

Linda Eder the other side of me is on my top recommend list, super sweet tunes that are family friendly.  Not to mention Eder’s amazing voice, I’ve read that she’s been fine tuning it on Broadway for quite some time after being on Star Search.  All I can say is it shows, her voice is powerful, melodic and blissfully relaxing to listen to.

They’ve seen Beverly Hills Chihuahua

October 27, 2008

Beverly HIlls ChihuahuaFinally I can get some rest! DH took the kids to see Beverly Hills Chihuahua Sunday so I don’t have to have them ask me EVERY single day when we’re going!

I didn’t get many details, but from what I gather, the kids were not overly impressed with the movie.  I’ll wait for it to come out on DVD.

If you saw it, what do you think?

Love Library: I Love You Through and Through

October 25, 2008

I love you through and through

by Bernadette Rossetti Shustak (Author), Caroline Jay Church (Illustrator)
A family favorite, girl2004 can’t get enough of this one.  I Love You books are an amazing thing to keep in your home.  Get as many different ones as you can.  The kids in your life will cherish the words that echo in their head after a few readings.

Build up your Love Library with I Love You Through And Through.  It’s a quick read, perfect for even the youngest children.  I have it in board book format and love it so girl2004 can flip through on her own.

Pets I Miss

October 24, 2008

This is going to be a very sad post, maybe THE saddest post of my blog’s life!  When I was a little girl I had three kinds of pets.  The first two were Beta fish, each died somehow, both were blue, both were named J.R. after the character on Dallas.

The next pets were hamsters.  I really liked my hamsters but something always happenned to them.  The first one got loose and walked into a heating unit thing in the bathroom, I heard the sizzle as his little paws burned off and reached in the heater thing to pull him out (he was stuck).  His paws were singed and charcoal black and I was crying/running to my mom who got very upset.  We put him in his cage and we went to the vet hospital in Manhattan.  After waiting our turn and the doctor taking Pebbles away, my next memory is of the Dr. whispering to my mother and my mother being very adamant about something.  I later understood from her conversations with other people that the doctor had tried to convince her to let Pebbles die but she’d insisted that the $35 (early 80′s money/single mother) was not a problem.  We cared for Pebbles, putting his ointment on every few days.  Eventually the burned parts came off and he had nubs.  It didn’t seem to bother him much as he hobbled around.

He died a natural death a while later so we got another hamster.  The name again was Pebbles, we didn’t have this one long.  My babysitter who was like a grandma to me, made a lovely pillow for Pebbles II to sleep on.  Well, one morning I looked in the cage to see Pebbles II’s head stuck in the pillow.  The pillow was stuffed with string and yarn and somehow Pebbles suffocated or strangled herself.  :(

My next pet was a calico cat and that was my one ray of happiness for quite a while.  Her name was Noel and she came out of nowhere on one of the worst days of my life I came home to my room to see a box on my bed with a big red ribbon.  When I opened it, there she was, a little calico kitten.  The first few months she would sleep under the sheets with me which I loved!  She would come running to greet me when I came home from school purring and licking my hands.  She stayed with us for a very long time, she was always an indoor/outdoor cat, then one day she never came home.  We looked for her, did the posters, etc… but no leads ever turned up.

There is one more pet that I haven’t mentioned, Fofinha, the red dobermann pinscher but I’ve got to save something for a happy pet post some day!  I’m sure the iDog from Burger King would be a lot less trouble then all these real pets.  Big thanks go out to PBN for organizing and BK for providing the opportunity to reminisce.

Miss Oops says NO to cracks

Miss Oops has done it again!  My feet have already fallen in love with Miss Oops! Pedicure in a Bottle quite some time ago.  Now there’s a product that effortlessly covers the old muffin top, crack in jeans and anything else in that mid section that needs covering up.

Butt cleavage needs to be banished so help spread the word on this innovative and desperately needed product.

ZonderKidz Adventure Bible

This book gets an A+ from me.  I picked it up last year and it is amazing for parents and children alike.  I love the way the information is organized and listed out.  Our favorite page is “Famous Children in the Bible” as well as the first page of each book has some answers to commonly asked questions…

  • who wrote the book
  • why was this book written
  • what happens in this book
  • what do we learn about God in this book
  • what people are important in this book
  • when did this happen
  • where did this happen
  • what are some of the stories in this book

You can’t go wrong with this item from Zondervan, great content to make the Bible come to life.  I’m so glad I found this book.  We studied from this book together as a family but I think I’m going to gift it to boy2001 now that he’s such a confident reader.  Update coming soon.

National Cupcake Week

I LOVE cupcakes! especially big, fluffy ones.  The problem is I don’t know where to get big cupcake tins and I’m a self-declared lousy baker.  The latter part definately did not get passed down to girl2004.  She is a VERY good baker.

She LOVES to bake cookies and cakes for the family, it makes her so seriously happy.  Of course I’m within arms reach but she does do most of the mixing and pouring herself.  I love watching her face while she watches daddy eat whatever she’s made that day.  It is a huge self esteem booster for her.  We started off with an Easy Bake Oven two years ago but quickly moved on to the big girl oven because the output was too small for everyone to get their fair share.  Still, there are times that we need a quick fix and that’s why I’m looking into the my girl gourmet.  It looks good but the age is suggested for 8+ so I may wait for some reviews to come in before I jump on it.

cupcake weekIn any case, National Cupcake Week is October 18 – 25, 2008 so make sure you get some cupcakes!

our tp is green thanks to Seventh Generation

October 20, 2008

Seventh Generation

I’m feeling so green!  I’ve cashed in a few of my Amazon gift certificates for something we always need – TP!  I got 48, 2-ply sheets, 500 sheets per roll for $40.  I’m thrilled with the low price AND I’m thrilled that my hubby has no cause to run out to the store.  Whenever he goes to buy toilet paper, he comes back with 89 other things so this is really going to save us money!

This is my first time using Seventh Generation and I must admit I’m very pleased.  I WAS a little scared to try a “green” tp but there really is no difference to the user.  The big difference is for the environment.  This is the line that got me:

Seventh Generation Bathroom Tissue is made from 100% recycled paper, with a minimum of 80% post consumer materials. Our paper is whitened with an environmentally safe process never with chlorine bleach. Our Bathroom Tissue is hypo-allergenic, safe for septic systems, ideal for low-flow toilets and contains NO dyes, inks or fragrances.

Seventh Generation TP @ Amazon get the low price by using the subscription (you can cancel anytime according to them)

Lunch Love with story bookkitz

Story book kitz

Story Bookkitz will get your kids loving lunch time again.  Slip one of the Story Bookkitz cards in their lunch box and they’ll have something fun to read at lunch time.  Each card has it’s own little funny and the stories are 5 cards long (perfect for the school week).  They’re nice and sturdy and have withstood the lunchbox test of being banged around with all sorts of discarded lunch items.

Boy2001 loves the little character ‘Tot’ because he says she looks like it could be one of his sisters.  It’s great to get kids reading different things and often, I can’t wait to keep use these with the girls!

“Like a Comic Strip for your lunchbox!”  $9.95 for 30 cards
