Who is totally sick of turkey?

November 27, 2007

I miss having my kids home, but at least I have this great Thanksgiving turkey sitting here to remind me of them.

I can’t wait to be able to buy my turkey from the deli counter instead of off this turkey! Usually we go through turkey like wildfire but this year’s Thanksgiving just wasn’t the same for some reason. Maybe because my mashed potatos were so darn good…

Anyway, this will be our last turkey meal so I am going to pull all the meat off the carcas and make a soup with the gravy as the stock. I have lots of veggies on the way to the compost heap so I am going to put them to use tonight with some pasta in there for the kids.

Saturday Special Meme

One of my favorite genres of memes at the Saturday Special Meme ~Creative Adventure VIII~ Time again to use your imagination ;-} Fill in the blanks.

1. While visiting in Europe and driving along the countryside you spot a famous castle that has long been empty. Excited you decide to check it out. Your curiosity getting the best of you, you drive through the large iron gates to the castle and get out of your car and walk past the large fountain in the court yard to the main enormous door and knock. You continue to knock but no one answers… totally creeped out but at the same time intrigued, you make the daring decision to enter the castle.

2. Entering the castle you are in a large completely furnished hall and a room with two large sliding doors closed on your right, a beautiful spiral staircase ahead and another room on your left also with closed doors. You decide to take the long walk to the sliding doors… Usually trusting your instincts, something is wrong because those doors don’t belong in a castle.

3. Much to your surprise you find a bottle of windex and a kleennex nearby and instinctively clean the window. You think, “my job here is done”.

4. Upon leaving and driving off, you know you will never look back, you simply can’t afford to fill your gas tank to make the long drive ever again…

The Birds - trapped

I have to keep rescuing these birds in my garage. I cannot stand when we leave the garage door open… there are so many little birds around - I love them!! but they are constantly getting into things. Here’s a sweetie that refused to get out or move, the window doesn’t open on the bottom, only the top, but he would not move. Finally daddy came to my rescue and made him go higher to where the window was open.

Black Friday Sales 2007

I don’t do the whole Black Friday thing, I mean the part where people are busting down doors at 4 a.m. I have better things to do spending time in dreamland. I feel pretty strongly about making employees get up in the middle of the night to open stores for people to buy stuff. I did go to KB Toys late in the afternoon and strolled through Walmart later in the day.

I got a couple of gifts for the kids:
Care Bears anniversary bear with Swaroski crystals and DVD for $16
Jam Pack Jam $15
Little Pet Shop Playset $15
Connect Four Travel Game $5
Matchbox Travel Board and Cars $7

I went by Toys R Us today but was VERY disappointed in the sales, I saw a flyer that said Friday and Saturday and they gave me the run around that the sets that were on sale (6) sold out within 2 hours, like before I got out of bed. Conveniently they were out of flyers up front and didn’t even have a review copy, they did try to direct me to one that is on the back desk who knows where. She made sure to remind me that it was a STORE copy… like I wanted it as a collector’s item or something.

I also got a gorgeous Corolle doll a while ago for $6 from a store going out of business. For boy2001 some kind of Thomas the Tank set, I forget which one but it was $20 instead of $60 because the box was damaged. Thomas the Tank and Brio have been a really good investment for us, boy2001 still gets it out in between Lego creations.

So the only thing I want to get is two humongo lego sets for boy2001 and some little things for girl2006 so she will have something to open too.

rainbow

Somewhere over the rainbow…

caught this picture a few weeks ago after a heavy rain. The picture couldn’t capture this moment. The kids went crazy, they haven’t seen a rainbow in ages! The best part is I got a perfect picture of the full arch over a neighbors house so I need to get the print made up, it will be the perfect Christmas gift for them.

Since I’ve had children I’ve gained such an appreciation for all things natural.

Pajama Mom used to WALK

I joined a GYM and love it! I’ve always loved working out, especially because I really didn’t have to! I was naturally slim but most importantly I WALKED everywhere. I even walked over the 59th Street Bridge on a regular basis. I would walk everyday at least 4 hours. I would walk from my home to Steinway to 36th Avenue and back. When I lived in Ditmars I would walk all the way from JHS 141 to a junior high school near 36th avenue in about 30 minutes. I was the speedwalking QUEEN of QUEENS. In the Navy PT kept me in good shape and in Japan I worked out with tapes, went to the gym and walked all over Tokyo. Some times if I’d ask for directions people would just take me on foot to get a free English lesson. I got a lot of exercise until I got to Maine where everything exploded. I gained 40 pounds in my first few months here from the lack of exercise. Then I got pregnant with the loveable boy2001 and gained more, so if you’re guessing I’ve got some Major weight to lose you’d be right! I am really loving the gym in my first week, so I’ll keep you posted!

red velour used couch

I found this couch and fell in love with it! I’m not only a pajama mom, I’m also a thrit store junkie! I found this sofa at the local thrift store and fell in love with it. I think they wanted $199 for it but I couldn’t justify it, so I just took a picture of it. I’ve never bought a used couch before but this one really tempted me. It was a beautiful red velour, the velour was like new and it was very clean, I’m guessing it was in plastic and recently taken out. I wish my bedroom was big enough, I would have loved to put it in there as an oversized version of a fainting sofa. Anyway, just thought I’d share…

VistaPrint helps Pajama Moms everywhere create holiday photo cards

It’s official! We’ve received our first Christmas card on black Friday! it seems to get earlier and earlier every year but it’s happenned! It was a photo card, very simple message and thought which will make a wonderful keepsake for boy2001. I’m always late with my Christmas Cards and have even had to send belated Christmas cards once! embarassing!

This year I’m thinking ahead and getting all the things done early so I don’t stress or blow off things. I stumbled upon VistaPrint’s offerings, all you do is upload any picture from your digital camera or computer and choose the layout and customization.

With girl2004’s age it’s especially helpful to send a picture with the card or holiday photo cards that can help little kids remember the family sending the card. This is a great time to order all the cards you’ll need, pictures are truly worth 1000 words. Enjoy the holidays with these great and easy to use photo cards!

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend, thankful to be a mom in Pajamas

Happy Thanksgiving all the Pajama Moms and families!

May you be particularly blessed this Thanksgiving holiday weekend and enjoy every minute of it.

I am so incredibly thankful to my husband for giving us a great lifestyle and giving me the freedom to pursue my interests, no matter how annoying they are to him! Somehow I feel like we are starting fresh come Monday, it’s not the new year but so much is going on in our lives that is changing our everyday routine - I’ll blog about some of that stuff later on!
