As I mentioned, I am now 35

October 31, 2007

As I mentioned I am now 35! turning 35 has been a bit traumatic for me. It started out great, last week Grandma came to town, we had a wonderful time, shopping around, thrifting, talking and just being together.

We found a great bolt of twill fabric for only $1.49/yard and I finally got Grandma to agree to make me a slipcover for my sofa and chair. We’ve had the same sofa/chair set for 7 years. I love the size and style but not the fabric. It’s a dark hunter green but faded in some spots and I’m just plain sick of it. It’s overstuffed and the arms flair out which makes it impossible to buy a premade slipcover.

I’ve tried so many different brands it’s unbelievable. None of the slipcovers fit the arms. It’s taken her 3 days so far, stolen moments here and there with countless pins and trips to the sewing machine. Hopefully it will be done soon and we can get on with her visit!

The kids threw me a party, daddy got us a HUGE sushi platter, a wonderful cake, and I got gobs of wonderful presents.

Here’s what I got:
*Roots on DVD
*I Love Lucy volume 4 on DVD
*A lovely Jim Shore Statuette
*An Oster Blender
*A beautiful frame that boy2001 read to me… the frame is engraved, thank-you mother…

It was really nice with all the people I love the most in one room!!

I got to talk Turkey with Butterball

I got to talk turkey with Butterball - thank-you!! I am so thrilled to be part of the Butterball Turkey Podcast this year! It will be live November 1st, just in time for all the turkey basting prep. If you have a recurring problem or concern with your turkey, this is the place to get answers. These people know turkey and have experts waiting to answer your questions.

I’m going to listen to the podcast first thing Thursday morning because I’ve planned a mock turkey day while my mom is visiting on Sunday.

I will remind you guys but just in case, go to the Butterball website and click on your language preference and then the Podcast link live November 1, 2007

*I hear the wrap up music playing* but I really want to thank Sara from Edelman and all the other dedicated folks over there that made the recording process fun for me.

Turkey DAY is almost here!!

Is your Darling Daring? The Daring Books for Girls Andrea J. Buchanan and Miriam Peskowitz

You know I’m a HUGE fan of the Daring Book for Boys but now there is a hers version… The Daring Book for Girls by Andrea J. Buchanan and Miriam Peskowitz have created a wonderful resource for your Daring Darlings!!!

Girls young and old will love this book! From Japanese T-Shirt Folding to Greek and Latin Root Words. I love that girls are well versed in home care, languages, writing and so much more! For years I’ve created a Kid Binder, full of the article clipplings, lists, words to know but this book has so much stuff I missed.

This book gives me hope that I will teach my daughter all those little things that my mother who worked full time my entire childhood dind’t have time for or even know about.

There are even fourteen different versions of TAG, can you imagine! unbelievable but true there are that many and these wonderful ladies dug them up for your daring girl to delight in.

This book has been girl2004’s constant companion and we’ve learned ALL the words to the Handclap Games! Of course the hand movements are still a little hard for both of us but it’s a work in progress!

Our next project is to get the materials for the FLAT Scooter times 3, all three of the kids have expressed an interest in this. Boy2001 has volunteered to lend his toolbox so we are in business.

If you’d like to SEE for yourself, look at this great youtube video to get a better idea:

Happy 35th Birthday!!

Thank-you, thank-you! today is my 35th Birthday! October 30th is the day I was induced, I’ve always wondered if it would have been my real birthday or if my real date would have been much later and I never got a chance.

No more acting like a kid, I need to get more serious about my life and my kids. I am serious, but I mean really get on the ball. My husband retires next year and I’d really love to get a job by then.

So if you know of any great jobs online let me know ASAP because I would love to find a great job online and find more opportunities for reviewing products, toys, drinks, teas, movies, books, clothes, etc…

Grandma is coming to town, sung to the tune of Santa Claus is coming to town

October 23, 2007

You better not cry
you better not pout
you better not whine
I’m telling you why…

Grandma is coming to town

(I creeped out boy2001 with the next part)
She sees you when you’re sleeping
she knows when you’re awake
she knows if you’ve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sakes!

—–Getting ready to go pick up Grandma from the airport in a little while. We haven’t seen her since June so it will be nice to catch up. We’ve got a lot of things planned, so stay tuned for pics.

I still need to get my meat seared and veggies cut for the crock pot stew and a load of laundry, shower and I need to get outside to pick the last of my zinnias for a bouquet for her room… So I better get off the computer for a little while!

I am an obsessive collector

confession time - again

I am an obsessive collector… I have so many I couldn’t tell you all, but let me tell you about a few of the most prolific:

Tiffany blue jewelry boxes
Old Dictionaries
country decorating books
old tea towels and embroidered towels of any kind
boudoir pillows - ooh la la
Easton Press books, I am dying to get more but am holding back

But I have started my most absurb non-sensical collection today, Maybelline Mascara tubes. You know the pink and green tubes? I think they would make great art, I have at least 10 per year because I change them quite frequently.

So what do you think, have I really gone over the edge?

wow! did a lot of shopping this weekend!!

October 22, 2007

hey, do you know the best way to save is to spend?

Spending money to save money is one of those crazy things I have an issue with. Unfortunately the totals still keep adding up while you’re “saving”.

I had a lot of fun at the mall, lots of sale and special offers…
first off was the Disney store, I bought the kids new costumes, couldn’t resist the buzz lightyear for boy2001 (He’s been everything else they had in the store, so this was really his only choice) for only $20 it’s a really nice costume. For girl2004 I got the Deluxe Jasmine costume from Alladdin for $40 instead of $80. I really loved this costume and almost bought it full price so I’m glad I waited!! Girl2004 will wear one of the costumes we already have.

Next up was Victoria’s Secret where I got a LOT of nice stuff for $60 including a very sexy bra, I had a coupon that got me a free panty and $10 off the bra. They also had a LOT of adorable panties for $4 which was GREAT and unexpected.

The next thing I found were Thomas the Train sets for 50% off. I guess it was on the boxes that were damaged and they did hide the stuff pretty well. I’ll save for Christmas vacation. The same store also had many of their Corolle dolls on sale for 50% off so they were only $12 which is a great deal for them.

Seems like the sales are really good lately which is making me spend more than I’d planned!!

the must Have little black book for all you in style

October 19, 2007

I have a confession to make,

GULP!

I’ve never EVER seen Project Runway!
There I’ve “said” it! that was really hard, I do try to keep up with my reality television but I never caught this one and by the time it was all the hotness I felt of the loop and didn’t watch. boohoo for me

I’ve been oogling all over Nina Garcia’s book, The Little Black of Style which is an AMAZING must have book with so much crucial information. I just wish I could transport this book to 15 years ago, I had (and will again shortly) such an amazing body but when I look at what I was wearing I cringe. Not every fad should be followed, I could just get sick thinking about the horror of outfits I wore but that is a thing of a past. This book is a life changer and even MENTIONS stuff like duck boots and L.L. Bean tote bags which makes this a highly relevant book to any lady in Maine.

what a happy day!

happy happy happy
even though today was a rainy, miserable day it was still great! we did our usual routine but the best part was my husband brought the old blender back from work. A little history is needed, I broke my magic bullet a while ago and feeling too cheap to buy a new one so I asked him to bring the one he uses to mix his protein shakes at work.

I steamed my cauliflower and carrots and pureed them then I got all the yummy ingredients and made the Deceptively Delicious Carrot Cupcakes with girl2004. Boy2001 refused to eat one because he saw me pouring in the cauliflower but both girls and DH loved them… they were really good, the recipe actually made 18 cupcakes instead of the 12 listed.

Hopefully tomorrow will go as well, we have a full day scheduled!!
