What do you do with your old sheets? how long do you keep them? do you use them to death for other purposes until they are in tatters or do you give them away while they are still good?
I tend to give them away while they are still in good condition because I figure someone can use them to sleep on.
My mother on the other hand is totally different, the only thing saving her from being a pack rat is she doesn’t buy anything. She uses what she’s got and she uses it to death!!
I’ve been tracking (in my mind until this point) the many uses a brown and beige striped flat sheet has to my mother. From the 70’s – 80’s she just slept on them.
Then she used this old sheet as a tarp while painting our many different domains. Then it hung around the basement as a dust cover.
The same flat brown sheet was washed (I hope) and used to pack up her china when she moved from New York to North Carolina. I visited a year later and noticed it hung over a new bike in the garage that is hardly put into service
While looking at a picture I posted here a few days ago, I realized something I hadn’t noticed before… maybe because it is so familar, my mother used the same brown/beige flat sheet to line up her catch of fish!!
Now I’m really wondering if I’ve seen the last of this sheet or if it has seen it’s last day. I mean really, what else can this sheet do after having fish guts/blood all over it.
I applaud my mother’s ingenuity in using something I would have gotten rid of 30 years ago over and over again in different ways. I’m gonna miss that sheet…
