Happy 300th post to me! it’s been a long winding road (ok, not really that long) but here I am!

my life today…

August 24, 2007

Today it was a gloomy morning so we worked in the garden for half an hour but I was convinced it was going to rain any minute so we went inside. I did some stuff online while they watched some shows including Yo Gabba Gaba which they love! After an hour of tv we went to Taco Bell and ate in the car instead of standing in line forever with the 3 of them… I know I’m in line for some mommy of the century award right now.

Then we went to “the park where grandma hurt she back” (quote girl2004). The park got that name when grandma visited, I was near the end of my pregnancy with girl 2004 so grandma was playing with boy2001 on the slides. She slid down a very fast curvy one and landed flat on her back and pinched a nerve.

Boy2001 remembered what happenned and mentioned the incident about a year ago, that’s when girl2004 picked it up. She was still in my belly during the first event but she “remembers” through her brothers’ eyes.

We just got home a little while ago and it still looks like it’s going to rain but refuses to. I kind of like the rain right now so I don’t have to water my garden. I haven’t had to water all summer for the most part… I gave the elephant ears some extra water and the gourds some special attention but I haven’t been as attentive as in the past and they’re doing just fine for the most part.

Just a few tidbits of my life today…

You Are an Orange Crayon

Your world is colored with offbeat, confident, and stimulating colors.
You have a personality that’s downright weird – and you wouldn’t change it for anything.
Loud and expressive, you voice your opinions fearlessly and strongly.
And while you have a strong personality, you can be friends with almost anyone.

Your color wheel opposite is blue. Your confidence is something blue people truly envy.

What Color Crayon Are You?

This thing is right on the money – all of this is absolutely true – infallible blog test! Orange Crayons Unite!

3x Thursday: 08/23/y2k+7: Sleep Meme

3x Thursday: 08/23/y2k+7: Sleep

1. On average, about how much sleep do you get in a night? Is it enough for you? Why/why not?

On an average night I get 6 hours sleep, it’s not enough and I feel lazy some days but other days the lack of sleep energizes me and I jump into a cold shower and the day passes without incident.

2. Do you notice a difference in things when you don’t get enough sleep for a period of time? What happens?

Yes, I didn’t get much sleep 2 night ago and last night my husband came home and graciously wanted to change the baby for me, went looking for the wipes and we couldn’t find them so we opened a new box. Later on when he went to fridge for a drink there were the wipes!

3. Generally when you sleep, do you sleep well? Why/why not?

Yes, I sleep very well. I have had insomnia for short periods of my life, but for the most part my head hits the pillow and I’m out for the night.

my head is about to explode – let them eat soup

August 21, 2007

pfff! I had to go to the thrift store 30 minutes away to pick up my Singer sewing machine and treadle (I’ll blog about this on my country girls site). So I decided to treat the kids to chuck e cheese’s. We stayed 2 hours and that was it, I couldn’t take it! My head was ringing, I felt queazy, we got the receipt for our tickets but left without prizes, I just could NOT deal with the line and the indecisiveness right then.

Then on the ride home boy2001 threw up all over himself which is a first. He has had more ailments this last few months than he has his whole life. He still has a sore throat and trouble swallowing (I need to schedule an appointment before school). After cleaning up the humongous mess, moving the HEAVY sewing machine and table into the garage, watering all the flowers, especially my favorite gourds I am totally pooped — let them eat soup!

Manic Monday Meme

ManicMonday

Q: What is the biggest transition you’ve had to make in your life?
Becoming a mother was the biggest transition in my life. Before boy2001 I had my life all to myself, my husband and I had been married for about 6 years when he was born but my husband is very self-sufficient. I was working and making money so we would enjoy ourselves a lot and go out (I definately like going out). Since boy2001 was born I’ve stayed home the majority of the time and of course my life revolves around him and my two girls now.

Q: If you had to be famous for something, what would you choose?
I would choose to be famous for coming up with a very fantastic idea that improved health care for children.

Q: What surprises you most about your life so far?
I’m surprised at how fast time flies, my husband will retire next year and it’s so exciting! Another thing that surprises me regarding time is that we’ve been in Maine 8 years! it does NOT seem possible since we absoluted hated our first year and a half and now it has become “home”.

Thanks for the great meme Manic Monday!

Book Review: Watch it Made in the USA by Karen Axelrod and Bruce Brumberg

Before I started blogging I used to read a lot in my pajamas. I still like to spend a day/night away from the keyboard and get some info the old-fashioned low tech way.

WATCH IT MADE IN THE U.S.A. is a wonderful reference book if you travel a lot around the US. My family and I love to tour factories. A factory tour is always educational and gives a good insight into the company. It’s amazing to see all the different things that are made and the history of the company you are touring.

I must be slipping, I forgot to mention that they almost always offer freebies of some type. Free pencils, dental floss, ice cream bars, you name it! not to mention they’ve learned to have you exit through the gift shop where you can usually find everything logo laden you can imagine!

The book is dubbed “A Visitor’s Guide to the Best Factory Tours and Company Museums”. Be sure to get this book and plan your own factory tour visit soon.

Here’s a short list of the tours I’ve been on in the past:

Poland Spring (ME)
Thos. Moser (ME)
Tom’s of Maine (ME)
Ben & Jerry’s (VT)
NBC (NY)
Hershey’s (PA)
Kennedy Space Center (FL)
U.S. Mint (PA)

AND I am ashamed to say I’ve never been to the Steinway & Sons Factory store in my home town Astoria, Queens! I only lived there 19 years of my life!
