I’ve been tagged by home mom!!

December 28, 2006

I am so excited!! I’ve been tagged for you guys to get to know more about me!!

Five things you didn’t know about me!!

1. I secretly wished each of my pregnancies was a triple whammy! My mother is a triplet and I always wished I would have triplets!!

2. I collect old dictionaries… I love the way they look and I love the way the pages turn, I think I may have a paper fetish, the crackly sound when you turn the pages is very soothing.

3. Before becoming a mother, I considered a good day one which I didn’t have to talk to ANYONE, very little social contact… I preferred to be on my bed with a good show on and looking at my magazines, or books, then maybe get a burst of energy and go for a run, sleeping until noon… looking back, I was really anti-social.

4. When I was a poor college student, I would scrape up pennies, nickels, etc… and buy a bag of rice… I would make a cup of rice per day and that would be all i ate until my then boyfriend (now husband) would visit from Key West for the weekend and take me out to eat… he would also give me a little money, not fully realizing I could have used more, I would use that to gas my car (thank goodness I didn’t have these prices to contend with!) and maybe buy the tiniest package of chop meat, or splurge with a then 89 cent mcDonald’s burger — NO WONDER I was skinny! Sometimes the old lady I lived with would make me a cheese sandwich, cheese, lettuce, bread, period! I don’t know why I didn’t ask for help…

5. I never where a pair of jeans twice… I am so paranoid about being frumpy, I cannot stand when my jeans are stretched at the knee.

Who shall I tag next…

The days are just whizzing by…

December 18, 2006

The days are just whizzing by and I can NOT keep up!!  I’ve had some not so great times in the last week or so as I described on my Steeping Beauty blog… but now I’m back and I’m not going to let things get me down.

Besides, Christmas is here!  Boy2001 has only 2 more days of school till the break and I am so excited!! I have lots of fun activities lined up for us!  including thrifting, the Children’s Museum, movies to see Charlotte’s Web… reading some new Barefoot stories and doing the associated activities.

We also just joined Netflix again, we joined when it first started up but cancelled because it seemed that were not getting the movies back as fast as promised.  Anyway, so far it seems great, we get to see the movies we want without having to get out and most importantly not having to trek out to return late at night.

On Saturday we went to the Chinese Buffet like we do every weekend, thankfully it was NOT crowded at all and we had a good time with no hassle (this was a highlight last week).

I spent very little time online on purpose, I want to soak up as much time as I can with my kids, they are so little and want to be together, who can turn that away?  So, I will try to post at night, while getting my other work done… I just have to keep prioritizing to make sure I’m a SAHM who actually takes care of the kids.  Take care, until next time…

Sesame Street Live, Chinese Dinner

December 11, 2006

Hi everybody!!  it’s been a while, things have been very hectic!  Yesterday was Sesame Street live day!  Big B has taken boy2001 since he was almost 2.

I didn’t even question it, when he mentioned that this year he would get tickets, one for himself, one for boy2001 and one for girl2004.  We didn’t mention it in advance, so on Saturday morning we told boy2001 and he threw a fit, he didn’t want to go, it’s for babies, etc…

Finally, I told B to try and sell back to the ticket counter but all of a sudden boy2001 changed his mind and wanted to go to “take his little sistah” and seemed remorseful, added to the fact that I didn’t think we could get our money back!  As you may have guessed, in the end he LOVED the show and was so happy to show me this year’s humongous Elmo balloon.  Girl2004 talked about the show all night and was VERY happy.

After that we had a rendez vous and proceeded to dinner at the chinese buffet.  It was not as good as normal, too many people fighting over the food and several of the selections were not available.

I’ll be back tomorrow…

going down memory lane, where the streets have no name

December 6, 2006

Trip down memory lane…

I was teaching “conversation”  in Japan and had to talk to people a lot.  Inevitably, this time of year everyone was talking about their “last Party” of the year (insert anything, like beer, dance, etc…) called Bonenkai.  These are parties to forget the year, it seemed it was symbolic for relationships with co-workers, student/teacher, whatever, that we would enter this New Year together by drinking and karaoke.  The entire month of December was fair game and I was ALWAYS booked solid, often leaving one gathering to attend another.  I had no kids, just a cat, so it was great!  The good thing was, since it was business related, we had a good time but nobody dawdled, three hours and it was over.  On to the next event, slithering away in the night.  The best part was I was always a special guest, often inviting my husband and giving me gifts, who wouldn’t love that?  students were often VERY generous around this time of year!

This would be countered by the first party of the year, Shonenkai which was much more sober in my experience.  Reflecting on life and business on the higher side of like.  My best Shonenkai was at the American grill ( I cannot remember the name for sure) at the Hyatt Park Hotel in Tokyo!  first class all the way!  I am pretty sure I recognized the lobby from Lost in Translation with Bill Murray, a movie which I absolutely loved and related to almost everything.  I don’t think it is funny to someone who hasn’t lived it, but if you’ve lived there, it is so dead on, the crazy stuff you are told and the way you must speak English, not to mention some of the characters!!  Anyway, other places were nice including foreign (to Japan) restaurants that were very good, I had my best steak ever in Japan with a wonderful spicy mustard sauce in a non-descript French restaurant.

I really miss Japan, especially this time of year.  It was so much fun to be in such a safe, friendly environment.  Thanks for the memories Japan!

my baby is growing up

December 3, 2006

I cannot believe it!  my little baby is growing up and I want it to stop NOW!

boy2001 was acting up in bed, he shares a room with girl2004 and they were laughing and would not stop talking.  After 3 warnings, I took Charles out of bed and told him to go sleeping the extra room downstairs fully expecting him to be too scared to go down there, much less stay down there.

Well, I just checked on him after 14 minutes and he’s down there bundled up in the extra bed half asleep. :(

I asked him if he wanted to calm down and come back upstairs to his own bed. He said, “no, I’m going to sleep here everynight”.  We planned on this happenning at some point, but not now!  I am not ready for him to sleep in his own room downstairs!!

Where did my helpless little baby boy go?

It just isn’t Christmas around here until…

December 1, 2006

It just isn’t Christmas around here until we put the tree up… Christmas on!  Maine is so dark and gloomy in the winter.  If you’re ever going to be depressed, it will be in the winter.  A lot of people walking around grumpy and not smiling!

I have been in the habit since boy2001 was born to:

* get up early (4-6am dependent on size of turkey) to prepare the turkey

* watch the Thanksgiving Day parade

* have a feast for lunch with all the trimmings

* then working off some calories lugging our artificial tree, ornaments, Santas, assorted decorations from the garage, basement, etc…  boy2001 was really helpful this year, he put most of the tree together while I was still gathering everything whilst DH was watching football with the girls (they seem to enjoy it).

By the time all the decorating is done I’m officially pooped and plop down to admire my work and spend time with the family for a few hours before the dinner plates have to get to the microwave.

This is a post for the ongoing blogging carnival of the Red Hot Bloggers.  This carnival is being hosted by Katelyn’s Holiday Ideas blog.
